The Legends of Poker: Annie Duke Annie Duke is only 44 years old, but is considered one of the best poker players in the world. She started from humble beginnings, the daughter of two teachers. She was smart, and learned to hold her own in family poker games. She excelled in and out of the classroom and found Poker to be one of her favorite hobbies on the side. Annie found herself in the Ivy League out of high school and attended Columbia University. After graduating she moved to the University of Pennsylvania to get her doctorate but left the school early after getting married to Ben Duke. Her next move was to the Montana back country and she found herself struggling to make ends meet. As a release of stress and maybe just to see how she would fare, she entered into the some of the poker tables in Billings. Her big brother had accumulated a bankroll so she spent hours learning the arts of the trade of poker and become a pro in no time, and quickly forgot about their financial woes. Annie finally earned the respect of Poker players worldwide when she won an WSOP bracelet in 2004. She was invited to the 2004 tournament where she went round for round and won the winner takes all event. She received almost $200,000 for that win, which was the most a female player had ever won. Since then she released a book about herself and gained a lot of popularity in the media. She has been on many late night TV shows (David Letterman, and the Colbert report) and has even tutored Hollywood Celebrities on how to win at poker. As the poster girl for Poker, she has gained a lot of national attention and has handled that pressure quite well when under the spotlight. Annie is still out there playing poker and making runs at each of the WSOP's tournaments. She has gone far into three different tournaments but has not since been able to capture the grand prize. She is currently a member of Team Ultimate Bet, and spends a lot of time just taking care of her family. She is divorced but kept custody of the children and then moved to Los Angeles. She is currently dating and living with her boyfriend, Jon Rieter, who is a producer as well as a Poker lover. She has earned over $3.5 million from poker winnings and is now fairly set financially. She has proven to the world that a woman can compete in a man's game and even excel. This has revolutionized the Poker industry and allowed other women the chance to come in and show what they are made of.
