NASCAR star Jimmie Johnson was born September 17, 1975 in El Cajon, California. Johnson began racing the young age of only 5 years old. At 5 years old he was racing motorcycles and started winning early on. When he was just 8 years old he had already won his first motorcycle championship in the 60cc class championship.

After his young days of racing motorcycles, Johnson proceeded to drive in a number of off road racing series such as the SODA, SCORE, and MTEG series. Amazingly he was the rookie of the year in all three of those series showing his success with 25 wins and 6 championships during his time driving in those different series.

In 1998 Johnson continued his reputation for making a good first impression as he joined the ASA series. Johnson finished 4th in the series in his first year racing in the ASA series and won yet another rookie of the year award. This is the same time that Johnson began racing in the NASCAR Nationwide series. Johnson continued to excel in the ASA series, winning the series twice in the next three years.

In 2000, Johnson began racing in the NASCAR Nationwide series full time. The NASCAR Nationwide series did not bring the same success that Johnson had grown accustomed to in his racing career. His only Nationwide series of 81 total events came in 2001.

In 2002 Johnson began racing in the Winston Cup series. The Winston Cup series is where he career started to take off. After winning just one race in the Nationwide series Johnson put together 3 wins in the 2002 season. Though he was figuring out how to win races he had yet to gain the consistency necessary to become one of the top drivers in the sport.
2006 marked a season of Johnson’s dreams, as he won the Sprint Cup Series championship for the first of 4 times.

In 2006 Johnson won 5 races en route to his championship including the Daytona 500, the biggest race of the sport. 2007 brought even more success for Johnson as he won 10 races and his second consecutive Sprint Cup series. Johnson went on to win the Spring cup series in 2008 and 2009 as well, stringing together a 4 year winning streak for the Sprint Cup Series, becoming the only driver to accomplish such a feat in NASCAR history.

Jimmie Johnson has continually been one of the best drivers in the NASCAR league and shows no signs of slowing down. He has dominated the sport and has been considered one of the best athletes of the entire decade. Not only that, he is bringing a bigger fan base to the NASCAR events and helping the sport to reach out to more people every year.

Success has only continued for Johnson in 2010 as he is on track for yet another Sprint Cup Series championship with 3 wins in the young season. Johnson is on track to put his name up with other drivers of the past as he continues to dominate the sport like no other before him.
